Why Vanuatu is Perfect for Kids
When choosing a destination for your summer holidays with kids, there are lots of things to consider. Whether your family loves culture, luxury, adventure, or relaxation (or all of the above!) Vanuatu family holidays have it all. Keep reading for our top six reasons to choose Vanuatu for your family holiday this year.
1. Short Flight Time
1. Short Flight Time
Taking children on long-haul flights can feel like a nightmare that you’d rather avoid, to some parents and understandably so. That’s why we love taking the kids to Vanuatu. Port Vila, Vanuatu’s main airport hub, is just a 2h20m direct flight from Brisbane and a 3h15m direct flight from Sydney. You’ll be there in no time – only one Disney flick, one colouring-in sheet, and one meal away!
2. No Time Difference
2. No Time Difference
Unlike a trip to Asia, Europe, or the USA, there is no jetlag when visiting Vanuatu because it is in the same time zone as NSW in summer, and only one hour ahead of Brisbane AEST. Touch down on the island and get straight into the action without having to recover, or worse, deal with no sleep for the entire family for a week which can lead to all sorts of tantrums. Vanuatu solves the time difference problem of travelling with kids, so everyone’s body clock is in tune.
3. Unique Island Culture
3. Unique Island Culture
The perfect opportunity to introduce your kids to new cultures and languages, Vanuatu is a melting pot of people from around the globe. Pacific Islanders have been travelling through the area for thousands of years creating a diverse range of clans and tribes throughout the villages, each with a different culture and traditions. In the country’s more recent history, the Portuguese, French and English all invaded, followed by an influx of American troops during WWII, each leaving their mark on the culture, architecture, and landscape as we see it today. English is among the 100+ languages spoken in Vanuatu so communicating with locals makes Vanuatu family holidays a breeze!
4. Outdoor Activities
4. Outdoor Activities
Holidays are a great opportunity to spend time outside with the whole family. Vanuatu has no shortage of waterfalls, blue holes, rope swings, amazing beaches, hiking, and epic scenery. Whether you like kayaking, snorkelling, or playing in the sand, Vanuatu has the natural wonders and perfect tropical climate for outdoor activities.
5. Accessible Prices

My Vanuatu packages deals to Vanuatu that mean you barely need to reach into your pocket and everything it taken care of. Plus, once you are there the islands are inexpensive. You can pick up fabulous souvenirs and gifts from the local markets including island-style clothing and accessories, such as sarongs, dresses, shirts, hats, bags, and much more. Plus, they have duty-free shops in the main towns of Port Vila and Luganville.
6. WWII history
6. WWII history
There were two significant events after the war that led to the creation of Vanuatu’s now world-renowned snorkelling and dive sites. The first site is the shipwreck of SS Coolidge located just off the coast of Espiritu Santo. The second is Million Dollar Point, created in the aftermath of WWII. After not being able to convince the local people to buy them and being unable to afford to get them back to the U.S., the Americans pushed unwanted machinery and vehicles into the ocean. Kids will love exploring these underwater worlds with a snorkel.
7. Family-friendly Resorts

Nasama Resort is ideal for kids as the apartments are self-contained, so you can cook and prepare meals for the family, take care of laundry, and stay in separate bedrooms. The Warwick Le Legon is perfect for active families who’ll love the huge array of activities on offer. Aore Island Resort was made for families who love to explore the ocean, with diving tours of SS President Coolidge and Million Dollar Point.
